Wow! If it wasn't clear before - it's pretty clear now. Waiting around for the international "leaders" at Copenhagen isn't the way to safeguard our global climate. Like so many changes that have come before, the real leaders are proving to be citizen groups all over the world, working shoulder-to-shoulder to lower carbon emissions and protect our atmosphere.
Doesn't it feel good to know that VCCool is working hard to create real and meaningful change right here in Ventura County?

- VCCool helped put on a transit summit, educated thousands of citizens with local articles, and collected over 350 testimonies including 36 video interviews to advocate for alternate transit funding.
- Our Youth Bike Safety Rodeo attracted 1,000 participants. Kids and families learned about bicycle safety, got their bicycles repaired, had fun. Over 300 local kids received a free bicycle helmet carefully fitted for their head.
- VCCool had significant positive impact on local planning and policy. We weighed in on local ballot issues, held a Spanish/English ballot forum to educate voters, testified for SB-811 for affordable local solar installations, and initiated an on-street bicycle parking project.
The list could go on - local food organizing, classes at our fledgling bicycle tool-share co-op, receiving our non-profit status, training events, awards, earth day, films, our great newsletter, and more.
Projects for 2010 include, a "Save Green / Go Green" campaign for people of all income levels, Our "Power Breakfast" bike advocacy training, the annual Kids' Bicycle Safety Rodeo, Green Urban Citizen Outreach, Local Food Policy improvements, the local bicycle tool-share program, public transit advocacy, and more.
We have dozens of volunteers, local collaborations and gifts of resources. But all these projects take money as well. None of these can happen without your generous support. So please help Ventura County do it's part.
